¡¡¡¡Since 1990 when CARD was developed, dozens of factories including those in Thailand and Taiwan applied it into practice. Consumer feedback shows that the optimal rollpass designed by CARD can give factories substantial economic benefits. All the factories have been successful at the first attempt in practical rolling. Some successful examples are listed below.

¡¡¡¡1•  No. 1 Rolling Mill of Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company . In 1991 No. 1 Rolling Mill used the CARD to optimize their original rollpass. One year after, the ratio of the finished products to stock input increased by 1.74%. The annual saving of electricity was 224,640 kilowatt-hour. The annual saving of coal was 1,192,960 kg. And the annual saving of rollers was 95,360 kg. The annual economic benefit was $448,100.

¡¡¡¡2•  Anyang Iron and Steel Company. In 1998 Anyang Iron and Steel Company bought one set of CARD for Rod and Bar Mills. After use, a paper entitled ¡°The Application of CARD in Rod and Bar Mills¡± was published in Rolling Steel , Vol. 18(2), 2001. The conclusion of the paper are as follows:

¡¡¡¡a)  On-spot production shows that CARD is of great calculation precision and reliability. It is very well designed, and easy to use.

¡¡¡¡b)  The production cost is significantly reduced by using the software. Compared with manual design, it increases the production efficiency by nearly 10 times.

¡¡¡¡c)  The integrated graphing software enables the users to conveniently visualize the rollpasses designed. No special plotting devices are required because the output is adapted to any common printer.

¡¡¡¡3•  No. 2 Rolling Mill of Xuanhua Steel Plant . In June 2003, the Plant purchased one set of CARD for Rod and Bar mills to produce ribbed bars through a multiple slitting rolling process. One month later, the designed rollpasses were put into production. They wrote in their application summary: ¡°The CARD helped us to design rollpasses for producing ribbed bars with a diameter of 16mm through a multiple slitting rolling process. In a pilot production, the product was successfully produced after the third billet. The quality of the finished products was excellent. In the afterwards regular production, the production efficiency has been increased by 50%. The annual economic benefit reached $1,567,000. The technology passed the technological appraisals in both Zhangjiakou and Hebei Province.

¡¡¡¡4• Alchemy Steel Group in Taiwan . In 2005 Alchemy Steel Group purchased one set of CARD. When using it in producing D13 ribbed bars, they got the finished product at the second billet in the first production process.
